SHOW ME A SIGN

I let the creative juices bubble up yesterday and decided this was what I wanted to do with this piece.
I like that she is nested in her creative energy sitting on a swing letting her art energy propel her.  There are times when I am comtemplating an art piece, and I am asking my muse to "show me a sign"...  but I have found in my art that stomping my feet and demanding action gets me no where.  With all things in life,
you just need to have faith and trust and as my wise daughter will add:  "a little fairy dust".
I love that girl of mine.
NOW
on to the next art piece.

SITTING ON A CREATIVE NEST

I am sitting in this nest (spiritually) this morning, contemplating ideas for art.  I have a rotten cold that is
making me feel utterly uncreative.  I have pieces to do for an art show (delivery this Sunday afternoon)
I am late, late, late for an important date.  But I am determined to sprout wings and fly regardless
of this cold.
I bought two old rusty swing set seats with chains several years ago and have been wanting to use them
in a shelf assemblage of some sorts.  The bird nest is real.. the old bed springs from a dump in someone's back field, and the wings cut from some lovely old screen that had white paint slurped wildly all over.
I love that.  Who painted that screen? Why not neatly?  I think of these things when I am reclaiming
things I have randomly collected from anywhere and everywhere.  How many happy kid's bottoms
soared into the blue sky feeling the wind on their faces while sitting on the swing?  And now these elements come to me asking for a new life, a new meaning.  It's joy full for me.  It is ART that makes me forget this
rotten cold.
NOW
I am ready to do my art.

HANGING OUT THE LAUNDRY

I have a commissioned art piece that has been on my to-do board for well over a year. When they say: "no hurry" it can be the kiss of death. Or at least procrastination at it's worst.
So I finally heard from this lovely woman sweetly asking how the painting is coming along, and of course I cringed at my embrassing tardiness. I always struggle with commissions. It's the ultimate approval factor that always stresses me out. So jumping into the work this morning, I decided to work on Yupo paper using my watercolors. Yupo is very slick and the watercolor is very fluid on this paper. Drying it with a heat gun is nearly impossible because the heat can easily warp the paper so you must be very patient. Not one of my biggies. But I love the fluidity and the surprises that can come with Yupo.
She wanted a piece of art for her new laundry room. I originally thought of a whimsical clothes line in a garden. But now have decided it's in the trees and the lines are between the birdhouses..
the one line you can see, the other one is above and it stretches between the two roofs. I lightly sketched it in with pencil. So I will work on this later. Too many orders starring at me presently. To work I go... ta

RECYLING THE SUMMER OF LOVE

Recycled Art has always been one of my loves. I have been invited to sell art at our downtown outdoor market that is held once a week. Artists can sell their work with a recycled art theme - which I jumped at the chance to do.
I have a ton of small frames, etc that I am digging through
to make art out of.... recycling!!!! And I want to do bird art.. especially love making the nests.
The Art on the left says "Practice Random Acts of Green-ness" and the nest is made out of brown shreds of packing material. I printed the words out on brown paper bag ran through my printer.. pheww!!! it actually worked and didn't jam up the printer.. Yeah!!!! Because the printer is an ink-jet I sprayed the words with clear acrylic to preserve the print. The bird is muslin with orange cotton wings. The flowers and stems are also fabric.
For "Peace Lives Here" I cut a small branch from the Sarvis berry bush out in our front yard.. (this is covered with little green berries that the birds will soon be enjoying when they are ripe!). I sewed on antique white buttons to the branches and tied on more fabric strips. I decided to make a wire hanger and added more buttons and fabric strips. PEACE LIVES HERE can be a reminded to us that even with the world's turmoils revolving around us, we have the ability to create our own peace in our own house, in our own family. For this bird nest, I used our paper shredder to shred up a mail order catalog.. lots of various colors. The bird is cut from an antique cotton mattress pad and her wings are cotton scraps from an old dress of mine. The birch board panel you would usually paint on the front, but I used the back for the inset purpose.
So more more art to work on, but for now, the orders are glaring at me, so it's time to go to work.. another sunny warm day here. I think summer is really here. Yippiee!
